Taxonomic notes:
This species was named from the flowers which resemble cleistogamous flowers in having reduced petals. However, in these the pollen is shed when the flowers open. While being of similar leaf shape to V. sieberiana, this species is distinguished by the peduncles being scarcely longer than the leaves and the cream-coloured petals scarcely exceeding the sepals in length.
