Description:
Perennial herb with a robust woody rootstock covered by leaf bases; leaves oblanceolate to elliptic, attenuate into a short petiole, obtuse to acute, 4-12 cm long, 5-12 mm wide, shallowly dentate to serrate, glabrous or subglabrous with a few axillary hairs.
Peduncles ascending, terete, 10-40 cm long, glabrous; bracteoles free, ovate to elliptic, serrate to deeply incised, to 3 cm long, with somewhat ciliate margins; pedicels 4-12 cm long, glabrous; sepals free, elliptic to narrow-ovate, 8-12 mm long, the posterior one the largest, glabrous or slightly pubescent towards the margin; corolla 12-20 mm long, yellow, often brownish near the centre of each lobe, pubescent outside, glabrous inside, with a curved spur 3-6 mm long; tube 5-6 mm long; posterior lobes narrowly elliptic-oblong, 8-15 mm long; anterior lobes connate for 2-3.5 mm, 8-15 mm long, broadly winged; style c. 3 mm long; indusium oblong, 5-6 mm long with a very curved orifice.
Capsule ovoid, 4-valved, c. 9 mm long, densely pubescent with a glabrous mucro; seeds broad-elliptic, c. 4 mm diam., the body acuminate at the base, broadly winged.
