Typha orientalis

Citation: C. Presl, Abh. Konigl. Boehm. Ges. Wiss., ser. 5, 6:599 (1851).

Synonymy: T. angustifolia sensu J. Black, Fl. S. Aust. 45 (1943), partly, non L.; T. muelleri Rohrb., Verh. bot. Ver. Prov. Brandenb. 11:95 (1869).

Common name: None

Description:
Stems to 2 rarely to 4.5 m high; leaves usually 6-20 mm broad.

Spikes confluent or separated by usually less than 2 cm; the female spike usually 15-20 mm diam., 7-31 cm long.

Distribution:  Not as common as T. domingensis.

S.Aust.: LE, EP, MU, SL, KI, SE.   All States except the N.T.   Widespread in South-East Asia and New Zealand.

Conservation status: native

Flowering time: probably in all months.

Taxonomic notes: The identity of T. basedowii Graebner (1915), Reprium nov. Spec. Regni veg. 13:497, which was originally described from S.Aust., has not been established.
