Description:
Annual or short-lived perennial herb 10-20 cm high; stems prostrate or ascending, branched, slightly woody near the base; leaves obovate to oblanceolate, attenuate at the base, acute to obtuse, 1-4 cm long, 3-20 mm wide, shallowly serrate or crenate, scabrous-pubescent on both surfaces.

Capitula shortly pedunculate, solitary or in groups of 2 or 3 terminating leafy branches, with 35-80 florets, pink to lilac; involucre 1.5-2.3 cm long, 4-6-seriate, usually without closely associated leaves; bracts glabrous or the outermost ones subglabrous, often purple, nonglandular; receptacle non-glandular, with deep pits; female florets 4-6-seriate, filiform or with a ligule c. 1 mm long; disk florets 4- or 5-merous.

Achenes 3.5-5 mm long, curved, 7-9-ribbed, sparsely sericeous; pappus bristles 12-15 in one series, 8-10 mm long, sometimes with a few shorter bristles in an outer series.

Distribution:  On sand dunes and gibber plains.
