Common name: Whorled pigeon-grass, sticky grass.
Description:
Annual, erect, apple-green, to 1 m high; leaf blades scabrous, 5-10 mm broad, ligule ciliate.
Panicle cylindrical, spike-like (not as dense as S. pumila), to 12 cm long, 5-12 mm broad (excluding the rather inconspicuous bristles), branches short; spikelets c. 2 mm long, densely clustered, obtuse; bristles I (less often 2) below each spikelet and with the small teeth pointed downwards along the bristle; second glume as long as the fertile lemma; first lemma as long as the second glume, its palea 0 or minute, second (fertile) lemma almost smooth or faintly rugulose under the lens.
