Description:
Perennial herb to 50 cm high; stems terete, brown, coarsely pubescent, ascending, sometimes slightly woody at the base; leaves sessile, obovate, attenuate at the base, obtuse to acute, 1-9 cm long, 0.4-3 cm wide, coarsely dentate to subentire, coarsely pubescent with short hairs.

Flowers sessile in terminal leafy spikes; bracts like leaves; bracteoles lanceolate, 4.5-7 mm long, hairy; sepals broadly deltoid, to 0.5 mm long, ciliate, connate at the base; corolla deep to pale-blue, rarely white, 17-25 mm long, appressed-hairy outside, bearded inside the throat; lobes narrowly oblong-ovate, 9-12 mm long, with broad subentire wings; style 6-11 mm long, glabrous except for a few hairs near the apex; indusium depressed-obovate, to 1.5 mm long, c. 2.2 mm wide, with a posterior tuft of purplish bristles and long white bristles around the orifice; ovary narrow-ovoid, 1.5-2.5 mm long, completely 2-celled, pubescent.

Fruit ovoid, 3-4 mm long, 2-celled, with a thin dry mesocarp.
