Puccinellia distans

Citation: Parl., Fl. Ital. 1:367 (1850).

Synonymy: Poa distans L., Mant. 32 (1767); Glyceria distans (L.)Wahlenb., Fl. Upsal. 36 (1820). , Puccinellia distans

Common name: Reflexed poa.

Description:
A tufted glabrous perennial, 15-60 cm high; leaf blades narrow, flat or with inrolled margins; ligule to 1 mm, obtuse.

Panicle loose, pyramidal or lanceolate, 4-20 cm long, the branches slender, unequal, all devoid of spikelets below, spreading or reflexed after flowering, the lower ones 4-6 at each node; spikelets 3-6-flowered, 4-6 mm long; first glume l-nerved, subacute, second glume 3-nerved, obtuse; lemmas 5-nerved, 2-2.5 mm long, midrib not reaching the tip.

Distribution:  S.Aust.: FR, NL, MU, SL, SE.   Native to Europe and Siberia. In Britain it occurs in salt-marshes, muddy estuaries and occasionally on sandy ground inland.

Conservation status: naturalised

Flowering time: Sept. — Jan.
