Description:
Pubescent annual; stems erect, 1-2 m high; leaves ovate to lanceolate, acuminate, to 25 x 8 cm, softly pubescent, with prominent midrib and lateral nerves on both surfaces; stipules pubescent, closely sheathing, margins ciliate.
Spikes several, in loose terminal panicles, slightly interrupted, usually less than 5 cm long; bracts sessile, pubescent, ciliate; pedicels to 4.5 mm long; perianth-segments c. 4 X 2 mm; stamens usually 7; style 2-branched.
Nut flat or convex, c. 3 mm long, apiculate.
