Description:
Stout perennial to c. 40 cm high, with base creeping in mud, glabrous except the leaf margins which are scabrous-ciliolate with minute erect hairs; leaves lanceolate-acuminate, shortly petiolate, 10-20 X 1-2.5 cm; stipular sheaths long and broad, without any cilia.
Spikes dense, narrow, 2.5-4 cm long, paniculate, on erect peduncles about as long as themselves; perianth white or pink, c. 3 mm long; stamens 6-8; styles-branches 2.
Nut black, almost orbicular, c. 2.5 mm across, rarely plano-convex.
