Polygonum convolvulus
Citation:
L., Sp. Pl. 364 (1753).
Synonymy: -Bilderdykia convolvulus (L.)Dumort., Fl. Belg. 18 (1827).
Common name: Black bindweed, climbing buckwheat.
Description:
Glabrous annual with slender climbing stems to 50 cm long; leaves broadly sagittate-cordate, acuminate, c. 2.5 cm long, 1-2 cm wide, on rather long petioles.
Flowers whitish, in loose axillary or terminal racemes; styles 3.
Nut triquetrous, dull-black, c. 3.5 mm long, enclosed in the perianth.

Biology:
P. aubertii L. Henry, native to America, has once been collected near Mt Burr (SE region) but is probably not naturalised and is not mentioned in other Australian floras or lists. It resembles P. convolvulus but has woodier branches and pedicels more than 4 mm long.
