Description:
Erect glabrous shrub, to 50 cm tall, with many branches arising mainly from a woody tap root; leaves inserted spirally on short but distinct petioles, oblong-cuneate, 4-15 x 1.5-7 mm, mucronulate, flat, the midrib distinct, green-glaucous; stipules lanceolate, 1-2 mm long, leathery, with white or brown scarious margins; monoecious.

flowers on slender pedicels 5-10 mm long in fruit lengthening to 12 mm and becoming thickened towards the end; female solitary, with or without 2 or 3 males in the same axils; male perianth-segments 6 rarely 5, petal-like, ovate, c. 3 mm long, pink, bordered with white; anthers and filaments free, cells dehiscing lengthwise; glands broad; female perianth larger than in the males, the segments broadly ovate and in fruiting stage lengthening 5-7 mm, nearly concealing the capsule; styles free or very shortly united at the base, shortly 2-fid, segments somewhat spreading; disk with a free undulate margin.

capsule depressed-globular, shorter than the calyx, c. 5 mm diam.; seed brown, 2.5-3 mm long, smooth or longitudinally striate with darker lines.
