Description:
Shrub to 1 m high; joints distinct, symmetrically tuberculate, 3-5 cm long; spines 20-30, subulate, 5-20 mm long, no sheaths present; glochids yellow; leaves small, early caducous.
Flowers scarlet, to 7 cm long.
Fruit often green to yellow-green, proliferating.
