Description:
Tall shrub to 5 m high; joints elliptic to round, olive-green, 10-40 cm long; spines 2-8, acicular, terete, 2-7 cm, long, dark-brown.

Flowers c. 5 cm across, deep-yellow striped red or pink.

Fruit subovoid, red, dark-red inside.

Distribution:  S.Aust.: LE, NU, GT, FR, EA, EP, MU, YP, SL.   N.T.; Qld; N.S.W.   Native to Panama, Colombia, Curacao and Venezuela.

Conservation status: naturalised
