Description:
Perennial herbs, prostrate to ascending, sometimes aquatic; leaves bipinnate; stipules membranous, persistent or deciduous, glands and stipels present or absent.
Inflorescence of globose or cylindrical spikes, 1 or 2 on axillary peduncles; flowers 5-merous, green rarely yellow, upper flowers perfect, lower flowers sterile; calyx campanulate 5-lobed; petals valvate, coherent or free; stamens free, 5 or rarely 10.
Legumes flat, dehiscent, with 1-8 rarely to 20 transverse seeds.
