Common name: Common rush.
Description:
Perennial; stems arising from a rhizome, usually 35-120 cm high and 0.75-2 mm diam., green, with an interrupted pith; stem striations 25-40; leaf-blades 0.
Inflorescence a rather loose lateral panicle; flowers pale; perianth-segments 1.3-2 mm long, subacute; stamens 3.
Capsule much longer than the perianth, ellipsoid.

Grows in damp places.
S.Aust.: MU, SL, SE. W.Aust. (probably introduced); Qld; N.S.W.; Vic. New Zealand and New Caledonia.

Biology:
Very sporadic in S.Aust., the occurrences more or less isolated from the main area of the species in eastern Australia. It may be introduced in the State. Belongs to Section Genuini; see note to J. paucifiorus. J. polyanthemos, with which the species has been previously confused, does not occur in S.Aust. J. revolutus R. Br. This species was included by Black (1943) but no collection is known and it is unlikely to occur in S.Aust.
