Citation: S. Moore, J. Linn. Soc.(Bot.) 34:223 (1899).

Synonymy: H. lorea sensu J. Black, Fl. S. Aust. 264 (1948), auct. non (R. Br.)R. Br.

Common name: Corkbark, corkwood, corkbark hakea, corkbark tree.

Description:
Leaves simple, terete, with no veins apparent.

Inflorescence axillary, developing in a small cone of deciduous involucral bracts, umbels, or short umbelliform racemes or panicles of few to many flowers; flowers glabrous or with pedicels and/or perianth externally pubescent; torus horizontal to oblique; perianth deflexed; gland transverse-oblong, curved to semi-annular; pistil vertically or obliquely inserted; style remaining decurved; pollen-presenter an oblique broad-elliptic disc with a short slender central cone.

Fruit straight or slightly curved with a short narrow beak flanked by 2 fragile horns; seed sometimes with a short median or lateral ridge, wing with a fine network of dark lines on a hyalescent background. (Species 12-16)

Distribution:  Associated with hills and outcrops, in rock crevices and surrounding sandy plains, by water courses, rarely in dunes, forming a component of woodland.

Biology: Likely to prove conspecific with Hakea cunninghamii R. Br. from the Cape Range Peninsula, W.Aust., which differs by its more slender leaves, its appressed-pubescent inflorescence and more slender rhachis. These character differences break down in inland W.Aust.
