Goodenia robusta

Citation: Krause, Pflanzenr. 54:53 ( 1912).

Synonymy: G. geniculata R. Br. var. robusta Benth., Fl. Aust. 4:63 (1868).

Common name: Woolly goodenia.

Description:
Perennial herb to 40 cm high; basal leaves forming an ascending rosette, elliptic to narrowly oblong-elliptic, somewhat attenuate at the base, obtuse, 4-12 cm long, 8-20 mm wide, entire to obscurely dentate, villous with yellowish simple and stellate hairs, eglandular; stems ascending, terete, villous; cauline leaves few, smaller, oblong to lanceolate, stem-clasping.

Flowers in loose leafy racemes; bracts similar to cauline leaves but smaller; peduncles 1.5-5 cm long, yellowish-villous, not articulate; bracteoles linear-subulate, 5-8 mm long, villous; sepals lanceolate, shortly connate, c. 5 mm long, yellowish-villous, adnate to the apex of the ovary; corolla c. 15 mm long, yellow, villous outside, glabrous inside, with a vestigial pocket; wings subequal; auricles c. 2 mm wide; anthers c. 2.5 mm long; style c. 6 mm long, almost straight, glabrous below with a few hairs near the apex; indusium transversely elliptic, 2-5 mm long, c. 3.5 mm wide, with a very curved orifice beset with short bristles; ovary yellowish-villous; dissepiment subequal to the ovary.

Capsule ovoid to ellipsoid, c. 10 mm long, c. 5 mm wide, villous with a glabrous beak; valves often 2-fid; seeds flat to biconvex, orbicular to broad-elliptic, c. 2.5 mm long, smooth, brown, with a thick rim and a very narrow wing.

Distribution:  In mallee and woodland.

S.Aust.: GT, FR, EP, NL, MU, SE.   Vic.

Conservation status: native

Flowering time: most of the year, mainly Sept. — Nov.
