Description:
Perennial herb to 30 cm high, sometimes with a thickened rootstock; stems ascending, terete, appressed-pubescent: basal leaves forming a rosette, shortly petiolate, elliptic to obovate, acute to obtuse, 2-10 cm long, 0.7-2 cm wide, appressed-pubescent to strigose, often with a few minute glandular hairs, entire or pinnatifid; cauline leaves oblanceolate to narrowly elliptic, acute, 2-6 cm long, 0.3-0.8 cm wide, entire.
Flowers in terminal leafy racemes or subumbellate groups; bracts leaf-like; peduncles 1.8-10 cm long, appressed-pubescent, articulate 1-2 mm below the ovary; bracteoles absent; sepals lanceolate, 3.5-5 mm long, acute, pubescent; corolla 13-23 mm long, yellow, silky-pubescent outside, subglabrous inside, with an obscure pocket about one-third the length of the ovary; wings subequal; auricles prominent; anthers c. 1.5 mm long; style 3.5-6 mm long, straight, glabrous or villous near the apex; indusium transversely oblong, c. 1.5 mm long, c. 2.5 mm wide, sparsely hairy below, with a shallowly curved orifice beset with white bristles; ovary pubescent; dissepiment two-thirds as long as the ovary.
Capsule broadly obovoid, 7-10 mm long, sparsely pubescent with a glabrous beak; valves entire; seeds flat, ovate, 5-6 mm long, foveolate, brown, with a broad paler wing.
