Description:
Shrubs or rarely undershrubs; branches glabrous, pubescent or hirsute with spreading hairs; leaves sessile or petiolate, simple, 3-foliolate, digitate or pinnate, the leaflets usually narrow; stipules small or absent.
Flowers yellow, frequently with red or grey or green markings, on terminal or rarely axillary racemes often reduced to 1 or 2 flowers on short or long pedicels; bracts small, lanceolate; bracteoles distal on the pedicel, occasionally absent; calyx dark-coloured; lobes valvate, lanceolate, almost equal to one another and longer than the tube, inside more or less tomentose on the margins; petals shortly clawed; standard orbicular or reniform, longest; wings oblong; keel obtuse, usually broader than the wings; all 10 stamens free; ovary sessile or shortly stipitate, usually glabrous, style incurred, mostly filiform, 4- to many-ovulate.
Pod turgid, almost globular to obliquely oblong; seed exarillate.
