Description:
Perennial 20-60 cm high; corm 2-4 cm diam.; leaves 4-7, sword-shaped, 12-40 cm long, 5-15 mm wide, flat, glabrous with a prominent mid-vein.

Spike bent or arching, one-sided, 3-8-flowered; spathe bracts narrowly lanceolate, acuminate, 4-7 cm long; flowers funnel-shaped, deep-pink; perianth tube largely enclosed by the spathe, curved, 3-5 cm long, confluent with the lobes; perianth lobes all ovate, subacute to acute, 3-5 cm long, subequal or the lower 3 slightly shorter; anthers 5-8 mm long, purple; style branches spathulate, exceeding the anthers.

Distribution:  A former garden plant persisting in cemeteries and on roadsides.

S.Aust.: SL.   Native to South Africa.

Conservation status: naturalised
