Common name: Broad-leaved painted lady.
Description:
Perennial herb 35-80 cm high; corm 2-3 cm diam.; leaves 3-5, linear to sword-shaped, the lowest one to 60 cm long, c. 2 cm wide, flat, glabrous, with a prominent mid-vein; spike straight, erect or angled to one-side, distichous, 3-6-flowered; spathe bracts lanceolate, acute, 3-6 cm long.
Flowers broadly funnel-shaped, white to pink or lavender; perianth tube enclosed by the spathe, curved, 2-4 cm long, confluent with the lobes; dorsal lobes ovate, subacute, sometimes hooded, 3.2-3.5 cm long; upper lateral lobes sometimes slightly smaller; lower 3 lobes ovate, subacute, equal, 3-3.2 cm long, often each with a red-purple blotch; anthers c. 8 mm long, purple; style branches spathulate, 6-7 mm long, far exceeding the anthers.
