Common name: Meadow fescue.
Description:
Stout erect grass, 40-80 cm high; blades flat, 2-5 mm broad, scabrous.
Particle contracted except when in flower, 8-15 cm long, the branches twin, bearing 1-5 spikelets; spikelets 10-20 mm long, 4-10-flowered; first glume c. 3 mm long, 1-nerved; second c. 4 mm long, 3-nerved; lemma stiff, 5-7 mm long, 5-nerved, often without a mucro.

Native to Europe and Asia.
W.Aust. (according to Gardner (1952) Flora of Western Australia 1, as F. elatior, but possibly in error for F. arundinacea with which this species has been combined under the name F. elatior). Recorded by Black (1943) as occurring in the same localities as F. arundinacea.
