Description:
Multi-stemmed or less often single-stemmed trees usually forming spreading hummocks 2-5 m high and 4-20 m across; bark smooth, but rough at the base or on main stems and branches; cotyledons deeply 2-fid; juvenile leaves opposite and sessile at first, linear-oblong to ovate-cordate; adult leaves alternate, on petioles 10-20 mm long, lanceolate to oblong-lanceolate, usually uncinate, ashy-grey or occasionally moss-green, 5-9 x 1.4-1.9 cm; veins and oil-glands usually obscure.
Flowers in umbels of up to 13 in the axils of the leaves; buds on pedicels 1-4 mm long, ovoid-conical to ellipsoid, 8-12 x 4-5 mm; operculum conical or rostrate, as long as or longer than the hypanthium; flowers cream-coloured; anthers all fertile, broadly oblong.
Fruits pear-shaped or obovoid, tapering to the pedicel, thick-walled, c. 5 x 5-6 mm; valves fragile, needle-like, protruding well beyond the rim; seeds more or less ellipsoid, faintly reticulate, not winged, dark-grey.
