Description:
Multi-stemmed or less often single-stemmed trees to 10 m or more high; bark smooth, pale-grey, shed in long strips persisting as flakes at the base; cotyledons deeply 2-fid; juvenile leaves dull or somewhat waxy, opposite and sessile at first, linear to broadly lanceolate; adult leaves alternate, on petioles 10-20 mm long, narrowly to broadly lanceolate, generally dull and grey, with numerous oil dots, 6-14 x 1-2 cm; veins faint.

Flowers in umbels of 7-15 in the axils of the leaves; buds on pedicels 2-8 mm long, ovoid-conical to cylindrical-conical, glaucous, 8-13 ~ 3-5 mm; operculum rostrate or somewhat conical, longer than the hypanthium; flowers cream in southern areas but bright-yellow in far northern areas; anthers all fertile, broadly oblong.

Fruits globular or urceolate, slightly constricted to the orifice, with a narrow grey disk, 5-10 x 5-8 mm; valves fragile, needle-like, protruding well beyond the rim; seeds more or less ellipsoid, faintly reticulate, not winged, grey-brown.
