Eucalyptus rugosa

Citation: R. Br. ex Blakely, Key Eucalypts 120 (1934).

Synonymy: E. conglobata (Benth.) Maiden var. anceps Maiden, Crit. Rev. Eucalyptus 56:275 (1922); E. anceps (Maiden) Blakely, Key Eucalypts 118 (1934).

Common name: Kingscote mallee.

Description:
Multi- or less often single-stemmed trees up to 10 m high; bark smooth, grey, shedding in flakes to reveal a creamy-grey layer, rough near the base; cotyledons notched or reniform; juvenile leaves opposite to alternate, petiolate, elliptic to lanceolate or ovate; adult leaves alternate, on petioles 8-20 mm long, lanceolate, thickish, glossy, grey-green, 5-10 x 1-3 cm, veins not visible.

Flowers in umbels of up to 11 in the axils of the leaves; buds on pedicels 2-3 mm long, oblong-obovoid to pear-shaped, 8-11 x 4-6 mm; operculum hemispherical, ridged, shorter and narrower than the 1-3-ribbed hypanthium; flowers white; anthers all fertile, obovate-truncate.

Fruits obconical to pear-shaped, wrinkled, usually fibbed, with moderately wide descending disk, 5-10 x 6-10 mm; valves 3 or 4, triangular, with narrow fragile exserted points; seeds grey, ellipsoid, reticulate.
