Description:
Multi- or single-stemmed trees to 6 m high; bark smooth, grey or light-brown, shedding in large plates, with some rough bark persisting at the base; cotyledons notched or reniform; juvenile leaves opposite to alternate, petiolate, linear-oblong to broadly ovate; adult leaves alternate, on petioles 10-20 mm long, narrow-lanceolate to ovate, sometimes glossy, grey-green to light-yellowish-green, 7-15 x 1.2-3 cm, with subadult leaves up to 6 cm broad.

Flowers in umbels of 4-8 in the axils of the leaves always with some in axillary or terminal panicles when the leaves are shed; buds sessile or on pedicels to 2 mm long, narrowly obovoid, 7-12 x 3-4 mm; operculum conical or hemispherical, about half as long as the 1-4-ribbed hypanthium; flowers red or purple to white; anthers all fertile, reniform.

Fruits shortly cylindrical-ellipsoid, l-4-ribbed, with a narrow rim and broad descending disk, 7-12 x 7-12 mm; valves deeply enclosed; seeds reddish-brown or dark-grey, irregularly shaped, not winged, conspicuously reticulate.
