Erodium cicutarium

Common name: Common storks bill, common herons bill, common crowfoot, cutleaf erodium.

Description:
Ascending to decumbent annual or biennial herbs; stems to 40 cm long, glandular- or eglandular-hairy; leaves pinnate-compound, each leaflet deeply pinnatifid, ovate to oblong in outline, to 7 cm long; petioles to 5 cm long.

Flowers in umbels of 2-5; peduncles to 8 mm long; bracts connate into a wide funnel-shaped tube, c. 2 mm long, ciliate; pedicels to 25 mm long, glandular- or eglandular-pubescent or hirsute; sepals oblong to elliptic, to 7 mm long; petals pink to white, sometimes with dark lines towards the base, obovate to oblanceolate, longer than the sepals; stamen filaments lanceolate, c. 5 mm long; staminodes about half as long.

Mericarps with a shallow pit at the base of the awn and occasionally with a glabrous furrow below.

Distribution:  S.Aust.: LE, NU, GT, FR, EA, EP, NL, MU, YP, SL, KI, SE.   In all States.   Introduced into temperate areas throughout the world; a native of Europe.

Conservation status: naturalised
