Electronic Flora of South Australia infraspecific Fact Sheet

Epilobium billardieranum cinereum

Citation: Raven & Engelhorn, New Zealand J. Bot. 9:349 (1971).

Synonymy: E. cinereum A. Rich. in P. Lesson, Voy. l'Astrolabe 330 (1832); E. junceum sensu J. Black, Fl. S. Aust. 639 (1952); E. junceum Forster f. ex Sprengel, Syst. Veg. 2:233 (1825) is an illegitimate name based on New Zealand and South America elements.

Common name: Variable willow-herb.

Description:
Inflorescence densely covered with appressed hairs as well as erect glandular and non-glandular hairs; leaves linear to linear-elliptic, 0.2-0.7 cm broad, margin with widely spaced coarse serrations, i.e. 0-6 teeth, rarely up to 8 teeth on each side.

Distribution:  On moist places but usually not along streams.

Biology: Not Applicable

Taxonomic notes: E. hirtigerum is superficially similar to subsp. cinereum but distinguished by its sessile leaves and the absence of glandular hairs on the inflorescence.
