Description:
Annual herb to 2 m high; stem erect, robust, unbranched between the base and the inflorescence, brownish, hispid; basal leaves petiolate, oblanceolate, 2-5 cm long, 3-8 mm wide, scabrous on the margins and mid-vein, entire or shallowly dentate; upper leaves sessile, narrow-elliptic to linear, 1.5-6 cm long, 2-6 mm wide, scabrous on margins, entire.
Capitula very numerous in a narrow-cylindrical panicle; involucres 3-4 mm long, ovoid; bracts glabrous, brownish; outer florets without ligules; receptacles 1-1.5 mm diam., shallowly pitted.
Achenes oblong, c. 1.5 mm long, pale, sparsely pubescent; pappus bristles free, straw-coloured, c. 3 mm long.
