Description:
Herbaceous perennials with several pinnate subopposite leaflets; stipules large, herbaceous; stipels absent.
Flowers large, showy, pendulous, in erect axillary umbelliform racemes terminated by a conspicuous sterile tip; bracts and bracteoles herbaceous; standard sharply reflexed, so that it and the beaklike folded keel are divaricate; upper stamen free, other 9 connate into an open sheath, anthers equal; ovary stipitate, with many ovules; style slender, incurved, bearded along the inner side towards the summit; stigma terminal, minute.
Pod turgid; seed exarillate.
