Synonymy: Clematis microphylla Common name: Small-leaved clematis.
Description:
Woody climber; leaves usually biternate; leaflets lanceolate-oblong, oblong or broadly-ovate, 0.8-3 cm long, entire, obtuse, almost glabrous; plants dioecious.
Flowers in axillary and terminal panicles; perianth-segments usually 4, creamy-white, linear-lanceolate, 1.5-2.5 cm long, pubescent below, almost glabrous above; female flowers with 4 staminodes with long filaments and abortive anthers and many carpels in the centre, each with a long plumose style; male flowers with c. 20-30 stamens with shorter filaments and oblong anthers without a terminal appendage and no sign of rudimentary pistils; achenes light-brown, compressed, ovate, with a plumose style elongated to 2-4 cm.
