Description:
Biennial herb to 80 cm high; stems erect, repeatedly branched, terere; basal leaves oblanceolate, narrowed at the base, obtuse, pinnatisect with segments often pinnatifid, to 10 cm long, pubescent and finely scabrous; cauline leaves lanceolate, pinnatifid, 1-6 cm long, finely scabrous.
Capitula solitary at the tips of the branches forming a loose corymb; involucre cylindrical, 7-10 mm long; bracts ovate to lanceolate, green, glabrous; appendages triangular, 1.5-2 mm long, acuminate, with 3-6 pairs of spinules at the sides, brown; outer florets somewhat patent; corollas pink to purple.
Achenes c. 2.5 mm long; pappus of unequal bristles to 1 mm long.
