Description:
Perennial herb to 1 m high; stems erect, branched, ribbed in the upper portion, slightly pubescent; basal leaves lanceolate, narrowed at the base, acute, more or less serrate, finely scabrous; cauline leaves lanceolate, slightly serrate to entire, 1-6 cm long, finely scabrous; capitula solitary or in groups of 2 or 3; involucre ovoid, 12-14 mm long; bracts ovate, pallid, glabrous; appendages triangular, 1-1.5 mm long, pectinate, dark-brown; outer florets patent; corollas pale-purple.
Achenes c. 3 mm long; pappus a ring of microscopic bristles.
