Common name: Dusty miller.

Description:
Perennial herb to 90 cm high; stems ascending, few-branched, terete, tomentose; basal leaves oblanceolate, petiolate, obtuse, lyrate, pinnatisect with the segments often pinnatipartite, whitish-tomentose; cauline leaves similar, to 10 cm long, pinnatisect with entire to pinnatipartite obtuse segments.

Capitula solitary at the tips of the branches forming a loose corymb, 15-20 mm diam.; involucre campanulate, 12-16 mm long; bracts ovate, slightly cobwebby, pale-green; appendages triangular, 1-2 mm long, shortly pectinate, dark-brown outer florets patent; corollas purple.

Achenes c. 5 mm long; pappus of bristles, prominent.

Distribution:  A garden plant which has been recorded as an escape, but may not be naturalised.

S.Aust.: NL, YP, SL.   Native to Italy.

Conservation status: naturalised
