Description:
Stems to 35 cm long, 3-6 mm thick; leaves glaucous or tinged reddish or brown, about equilateral near the middle, the edges more or less smooth, the keel crenulate-scabrous towards the top or smooth, mostly 3.5-7 cm long, 4-9 mm wide.
Flowers c. 2 cm diam., sessile or subsessile; ovary suboblong in outline; perianth lobes 4 or 5, to 1.8 cm long; petaloid staminodes 45-60, light-purple, white towards the base, not streaked when dry; stamens 20-80; styles 6-10.
Fruit becoming purple, ellipsoid to obovoid-oblong, 15-20 mm long; seeds 1-1.3 mm long.

Distinctly inland in distribution in comparison with the other species. Difficulty has been experienced in separating this species from C. rossii.
