Description:
Perennial herb with appressed non-glandular hairs; leaves all basal, entire, flat; inflorescence a scapose capitulum formed by several crowded very shortly pedicellate cymes each with an involucre of short herbaceous bracts.

Flowers sessile, erect, each surrounded by 4 scarious-hyaline bracteoles, hypogynous, hardly zygomorphic; hypanthium cylindric, free from the ovary but surrounding it; calyx lobes subulate, plumose; corolla blue with an entire hairy narrow-cylindrical tube and subequal patent wingless lobes; stamens inserted at the base of the corolla, anthers cohering; style simple, straight, glabrous, ultimately far exceeding the corolla; indusium cup-shaped; ovary superior, 1-celled; ovule solitary, basal, erect.

Fruit indehiscent, enclosed by the hardened persistent calyx; pericarp hyaline; seed obovoid, without endosperm.

Distribution:  Monotypic, endemic to Australia.
