Description:
Divaricately branched shrub c. 50 cm high, monoecious; leaves sessile, erect, deeply concave and partially clasping the branch; frequently congested on the dwarf lateral shoots; lamina broadly ovate, 4-8 mm long, apex acute and often recurred, base rounded or cordate, margin entire or with 2-4 teeth, scaly or with a grey sheen, sometimes glabrous with age.
Male flowers in axillary glomerules towards the apex of the branches; female flowers axillary, solitary, obscured by the subtending leaf.
Fruiting bracteoles sessile, united except at the apex, oblong; apex 3-toothed; base rounded; in all c. 2.5 mm long, 1.5 mm wide.
