Description:
Short-lived perennial c. 50 cm high, monoecious; leaves thin, petiolate, scurry to scurfy-tomentose on both surfaces; lamina broadly ovate to broadly elliptic, 2-4 cm long, acute, acutely lobed, base cuneate; petiole half the length of the lamina.
Flowers mixed in clusters, both axillary and forming short disjunct spikes.
Fruiting bracteoles sessile or subsessile, appressed, free to the base, broadly triangular, c. 5 mm long and wide (rarely to triangular), more or less scurfy-tomentose; margins prominently dentate; appendages small, semicircular, inflated, 0.5-1 mm wide, near the base of each bracteole; seed circular; radicle erect.
