Synonymy: Aristida calycina, Aristida muricata Common name: Rough threeawn, rough wiregrass.
Description:
Tufted perennial to 100 cm tall; leaf blades conduplicate or flat, 10-20 cm long.
Inflorescence of dense spike-like interrupted branches, 10-22 x 1.5-3 cm; glumes slightly unequal, differing by 0.5-2 mm, smooth or scaberulous, cuspidate to aristulate, 1-nerved, the lower 7-9 mm long, the upper 8-11 mm long; lemma 8.5-10 mm long (including the callus of 1-2 mm), with distinct long setaceous hairs towards the apex; awns subequal, 10-20 mm long, flattened at the base, filiform apically.
Grain 6-7 mm long, with a hilum c. 4 mm long.
