Description:
Tufted perennial 30-60 cm tall; leaf blades up to 70 cm long and 2-3 mm broad, flat and usually twisted, scabrous above and smooth below.
Inflorescence more or less spike-like, 12-20 x c. 3 cm; glumes slightly unequal, 1-nerved, mucronate, the lower c. 8 mm long, the upper 9-11 mm long; lemma 6-7 mm long (including the callus c. 0.8 mm long), convolute, tuberculate-scabrous in the upper half, with a twisted column c. 5 mm long; awns subequal 16-22 mm long; grain 4-5 mm, with a hilum 1.5-2 mm long.
