Description:
Robust tufted perennial to 80 cm tall with branched glaucous culms; leaf blades flat to conduplicate, scabrous above, smooth below, to 12 cm long.

Inflorescence narrow-cylindrical, 15-28 x 2-6 cm, with 2 pulvini in the axils; glumes subequal, 1-nerved, smooth or scaberulous, with scabrid keels, cuspidate, the lower 11-13 mm long, caducous, the upper 14-15 mm long; lemma 12-12.5 mm long (including the callus of 1.5-2.2 mm), involute, muricate in the furrow, pallid with purple markings, smooth; awns subequal, the central awn 31-37 mm, the side awns 30-34 mm; grain 6.5-8 mm long, with a hilum 1.5-4 mm long.
