Synonymy: A. brachypappus F. Muell. var. conocephalus J. Black, Fl.S. Aust. 645 (1929).

Description:
Annual herb 3-12 cm high; stems several from the base, decumbent to ascending or rarely erect, densely branched, cobwebby-pubescent; leaves alternate, subterete, hnear, rarely narrowly oblanceolate, obtuse, 0.5-1.5 cm long, c. 1 mm wide, cobwebby with appressed hairs, greyish.

Compound heads ovoid, 0.8-1.6 cm long, 4-6 mm diam., with 30-100 capitula; common involucral bracts 3-5, to 3 mm long, usually enclosing the narrowed base of the inflorescence; bracts subtending capitula solitary, rarely 2-4 overlapping, obovate, c. 2.5 mm long, glabrous or the midrib sparsely hairy near the apex; capitular involucral bracts 2-2.7 mm long, with glabrous midribs, the inner pair abruptly contracted near the base; corolla evenly tapered, 5-toothed, 1.4-2.1 mm long.

Achene obovoid, 0.4-0.7 mm long; pappus a jagged scarious ring 0.1-0.3 mm high.

Distribution:  Occurs on clay and loam soils in shrub steppe communities.
