Amaranthus deflexus

Synonymy: Not Applicable Common name: Spreading amaranth.
Description:
Procumbent perennial; stems to c. 40 cm long, densely puberulent in the upper part; leaves ovate, obtuse or acute, 3-5 cm long, petiolate.
Flowers in dense terminal spikes, becoming interrupted towards the base; bracts and bracteoles ovate, mucronate, one-third-two-thirds as long as the perianth; perianth-segments 2 or 3, linear to oblong-spathulate.
Fruit smooth, longer than wide, inflated, twice as long as the perianth, 2.5-3 mm long, indehiscent; seeds much smaller than the cavity within the fruit, rounded-obovoid, c. 1-1.2 mm long.
