Synonymy: A. ovina sensu J. Black, Fl.S. Aust. 398 (1948), included this species as well as A. agnipila, A. X anserovina and A. echinata.

Description:
Stems usually 10-50 cm high, lacking stolons; leaves narrowly obovate to oblanceolate, with 5 or more pairs of leaflets, usually 8-12 cm long (including the petiole), glabrous or sparsely appressed-pilose above, more densely pilose below.
Flowers in interrupted spikes; sepals 4 or 5, 1-2.5mm long; stamens dark-purple, 1-4 mm long.
Fruits ovoid, lacking ridges, densely spreading-pilose; spines unequal, slender; the 3-6 longer spines 2.4-4 mm long; 15-50 shorter spines 0.5-2 mm long.
