Small creeping plants; leaf blades rigid, flat; ligule a minute hairy membrane.

Inflorescence a dense spike; spikelets 1-flowered, subsessile, appressed to the continuous rhachis of the spike; glume 1, broad, coriaceous, keeled; lemma much smaller, hyaline.

Distribution:  10 species from the Mascarene Islands, Asia and Australasia.
