Creeping rhizome poorly differentiated; leaves 2-5 cm long, linear, entire, less than l mm broad, sheathing membranous stipule c. 5 mm long.

Male flower anther of 2 pollen-sacs (rarely 4 or 1); female flowers usually subsessile, carpels usually 3,

Fruiting carpel 2-4 mm long, tuberculate on the dorsal surface, not keeled; carpophore very short.

Distribution:  Occurs in fresh and brackish water.

S.Aust.: MU, SL, SE.   N.S.W.   Cosmopolitan including New Zealand.

Conservation status: native
