Common name: Orange immortelle.
Description:
Annual herb to 50 cm high; stems erect to ascending, numerous from the base, unbranched, brown, pubescent; basal leaves narrowly oblanceolate to elliptic, subacute, to 11 cm long, often absent at flowering; cauline leaves narrowly lanceolate to linear, subamplexicaul, acute, 2-7 cm long, 2-5 mm wide, sparsely cobwebby to pubescent, with recurved margins.
Capitula 2-9 in loose corymbs, on pedicels 2-7 cm long with reduced leaves, ovoid to campanulate, 1.5-2 cm diam., reddish-orange to golden-yellow; involucral bracts lanceolate, acuminate, ciliolate, on prominent hairy claws, loosely arranged on the elongated axis, becoming reflexed.
Achenes fusiform, c. 1.5 mm long, slightly papillose, brown, with a pallid beak 3-4 mm long; pappus bristles 15-20, 5-8 mm long, finely barbellate, white.
