Citation: L., Sp. Pl. 2O9 (1753).

Derivation: Latin vinca-pervinca or simply pervinca, the periwinkle.

Synonymy: Not Applicable

Common name: None

Description:
Creeping dwarf shrubs or herbaceous evergreen or deciduous perennials, forming a dense ground cover; leaves petiolate, opposite and often decussate.

Flowers pedicellate, solitary in the leaf axils; corolla usually blue, lobes spreading above the narrow-based tube, inner surface of the tube with a line of hairs above the stamens; filaments inserted about halfway up the corolla tube.

Fruit usually 2 divergent follicles.

Distribution:  5 species in Europe, North Africa and western Asia.
