Description:
Stems rigid, to 1 m high; nodes pubescent; sheaths tightly rolled, scaberulous; ligule truncate, 1.5 (rarely 0.3)-3 mm long; auricles hirsute; blades to 20 cm long, 1.5-3 mm wide, scabrous to sparsely pubescent.
Panicle 10-25 cm long, contracted, t-3 cm wide (excluding the awns); glumes gaping, acute to acuminate; lower glume 15-20 mm long; upper glume 10-16 mm long; floret elliptic, 5-7.5 mm long (excluding the awn); lemma red-brown, smooth to granular upwards, with yellow hairs to the apex; callus 1.5-3 mm long, straight and sharp: awn 3-6 cm long, twice bent; column l-2 cm long, plumose.
