Description:
Creeping perennials; leaf blade flat; ligule of hairs.
Inflorescence a spike-like raceme or spike-like panicle; spikelets compressed dorsally, with I fertile floret, subsessile, 2-5 together, embedded in alternate hollows of the flattened corky rhachis of the raceme, which finally disarticulates between the notches; first glume small; first lemma subequal to the second glume, containing a hyaline palea with or without stamens, second (fertile) lemma and palea rather stiff.
